What are the best shoes for children to wear during summer school?
School Shoes for Summer
For summer school, children should wear plain black, full leather (or polishable leather substitute) shoes that are formal in style and appropriate for a business environment. These should have:
- No obvious branding or logos
- No colored stitching or reflective areas
- Plain black laces
- Minimal heel (no more than one inch)
Not Permitted
- Trainers or sports brands (including Converse and Vans)
- Plimsolls or pumps
- Canvas footwear
- Suede shoes
- Open-toe shoes
- Boots (only certain styles permitted for Years 12-13)
- Colored badges, laces, bands or stripes
During warmer weather when "Summer Dress" is announced by the Head, the same footwear requirements still apply.
Summer Alternatives
Even in summer, the same shoe requirements remain in place. There are no special summer exceptions for footwear. However, during official "Summer Dress" periods:
- Girls may wear navy ankle socks (visible above the shoe) instead of blue tights with skirts
- Boys have the option to wear charcoal grey tailored school uniform shorts with grey school socks
If you're unsure about a particular shoe style, please contact the Kings' School Senior Leadership Team or Heads of Year before making a purchase.
